7th Annual Kick Cancer for Stephen Foundation 3v3 Tournament

Thank you all so much for participating in the 7th Annual Kick Cancer for Stephen Foundation 3v3 Tournament. It was a difficult decision to cancel the friday night portion of our tournament, but safety is always our number one concern and we cancelled it just in time before the storm hit. Saturday gave us scare but we were able to play and everyone seemed to enjoy the evening.

We are always amazed and happy you come out to play and by doing so, support our foundation and honor Stephen’s wishes. We have more to do and will never stop believing there is a cure out there, because no child should ever have to suffer.

Thank you to all the parents, players, sponsors and everyone involved with the foundation. Without all of you, none of this would be possible. We look forward to seeing you next year on “the pitch”, spread the word and let’s make next year even bigger and better!!

Sincerely,

Francie and Steve Placencia

3v3 tournament a success in spite of weather cancellation!

Here are the medal winners from this year’s 3v3 tournament.

Monsoons cancel first night of the 7th Annual 3 v 3 tournament.

For the first time in seven years, games at the 3V3 tournament were cancelled due to weather. Thankfully, the field coordinator was tracking the weather and noticed lightning strikes were less than four miles away. This information was brought to the attention of the foundation’s President. The decision to cancel last night’s games was difficult. However, Steve and Francie felt the safety of all participants was paramount.

All brackets have been modified to reflect an additional game to tonight’s schedule. Please check out the new brackets page.

Have fun!

Goals & Accomplishments: TMC & Diamond Children’s Center

tmc1

We recently finished outfitting Diamond Children’s Center, all 16 of TMC’s pediatric Emergency rooms, and all 36 TMC pediatric ward rooms with PS3 games, movies and extra controllers.

Both hospitals are now completely outfitted!

Our next goal is to set up a movie theatre room. Children who are sick or in treatment don’t always have the opportunity to go to the movies, so we would like to give them the chance to see first run movies and enjoy the full movie experience…popcorn, soda and snacks. All at NO cost to the family.

Our main objective as a Foundation is to provide funding for all pediatric cancer research. Every 3 minutes a child is diagnosed with some form of cancer and in the fight for their life. Our Foundation believes every child should have the chance to be a child and no child should ever have to suffer.

Stephen believed there is a cure for cancer…it just needs to be found. He participated in several experimental drug therapies; all in the hopes of curing not only his cancer but others’s as well. Even though he knew his cancer was not to be cured, Stephen said he knew all that he’d been through helped the doctors to better understand his cancer and it ultimately helped others.

Goals & Accomplishments: Update

We have completed all 96 rooms at UMC’s Diamond Children’s Center. Every room is equiped with a PS3, games and extra controls and movies.

All of the rooms on the 3rd floor Pediatric Hematology Oncology are also equipped with either a Wii, PS3 or XBox system. Each room will also include games, movies, and extra controls.

We also stocked the Hemo/Onco ward with snacks, juice and water for the patients and their families. It can get expensive to go down to the cafe for the basics.

The Foundation donates games, movies, gift cards and toys so the patients can be recognized when they have had a treatment or a proceedure. These gift cards are purchased from:

McDonald’s
Subway
Starbucks
Target
Best Buy
Boson Market
Coldstone Creamery

The toys we purchased:

Barbies
Hot Wheels
Coloring books
Crayons
Markers
YoYos
Play Dough
Silly Puddy
